SENIOR GENERAL LEDGER ACCOUNTANT

The General Ledger Accountant will be a key member of the Akero Accounting team, supporting the Assistant Controller in accounting processes, including regular close activities and ongoing GAAP adherence and compliance, and additional work as assigned. This position will be based out of the company’s South San Francisco office.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports in maintaining the general ledger for accounting operations
  • Supports month end, quarter end and annual close processes, and be responsible to prepare journal entries
  • Develops good understanding of company’s R&D activities and supports FP&A team in preparing quarterly R&D accruals
  • Supports financial statements variance analyses
  • Performs account reconciliation and analysis and maintains adequate documentation
  • Able to summarize agreements and provide accounting implication
  • Supports the accounting team in establishing and maintaining the accounting policies and procedures within the company
  • Assists in preparation of schedules supporting external audits and reviews
  • Supports ad hoc projects as assigned
  • Drive continual improvements to processes, systems, financial tools and documentation

Technical Requirements and Skills:

  • Hands on General Ledger experience, including regular work with complex reconciliations and journal entries, and experience in month end close activities
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to identify issues and recommend a course of action
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills (team player/ability to work cross functionally)
  • Self-motivated and passion to learn
  • Demonstrated success working in a deadline driven and multi-task environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Highly proficient with Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience with ERP systems (preferably NetSuite)

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in key and progressive roles in financial accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA is a plus
  • Meaningful experience in the biotechnology industry
